Why Roulette is So Popular

The game of Roulette is very simple to play. The object of the game is to pick the winning number, sounds easy right. An American roulette table has 36 numbers ranging from 1 to 36 with a 0 and a 00 at the top. These numbers appear on the playing table on what is known as the inner table and on the roulette wheel. The numbers alternate from red to black.

A straight up win on any number pays out at 35 to 1. This huge payout is mostly the reason for its popularity despite the fact that you can easily go 35 rounds without picking a winner.

Many people incorrectly think that by placing a bet on any number over and over again and eventually you will be a winner and if it happens in less then 35 spins you have made some money. The problem is that for this to be true, for you to be guaranteed to win each spin of the wheel one number would have to be eliminated then each spin the odds would go up and eventually you would win.

In roulette each spin has the exact same number of possible winners. This means that you have the same chance at spin 1 of your number coming up that you will have on the 35th spin or the 100th spin, and this is why the payout is so high for a straight up win.

You have the option to bet on groups of number, you can place a bet on an entire row or column of numbers. You can also bet on groups of numbers that touch each other on the table, an example would be the 4, 5, 7 and 8. These numbers are in different rows but they all have corners that touch one another and by placing a chip on the corners you are splitting your bet between the four numbers. This bet has much better odds of winning so the payout is only 8 to 1.

You can also do what is called the 5 bet in roulette. This is when you are betting the top row of numbers the 1, 2, and 3 and the 0 and 00 and this bet pays 6 to 1

Then there are bets like what color the winning number will be or if that number will be an odd or an even number. These bets are the easiest to win and only pay out at 1 to 1.

Anyone can sit at the roulette table for their first time and win some money, but to repeatedly make the big wins is next to impossible, but people flock to the table and place their bets on the straight up win and pray that they get that big 35 to 1 payoff.

Which is the biggest possible payoff of all the casino games, with the exception of the slot machines, and this is the reason why the game is so popular with gamblers at online casinos and land based casinos.
