Things to know before getting new pets

There are many facts to consider before you adopt a new pet. The dissimilarities in behavior and personality among dog types can be compared to uniqueness in people. Finding the right match between the dog breed and the owner or family is the key to success in bringing a dog into your house.

There are numerous varieties that are naturally introduced to the dog world as well as those created explicitly by cross-breeding or breeding 2 different dogs, for example Labradoodle which is a cross of a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle.

You should ask your family what type of dog your family can take care. Having a large enclosure can be sufficient room for a large dog to run around.

Are you looking for a dog breed that is sturdy, yet cute and good with your children? Are you thinking of getting a guard dog for your business? Do you want to have a show dog to enter competitions?

Or do you just want to have a faithful companion, petite enough to have in your house and calm enough to sit with his head on your lap in the evening? These are practical concerns to think about as you look for the right dog breed.

Are you living by yourself in your house? Single person who works long hours then choose a dog breed that can handle with many time alone indoors – maybe dogs that enjoy toys and can also entertains himself.

If you live with small children a medium to large-size dog is a better choice since it is gentle by nature and also patient with children. Kids often think that their pet dog is like a toy – they don't understand it's a living; breathing creatures that can get hurt and become aggressive by rough housing.

There are breeds that will not tolerate the behavior of small children, but would be great with older children. A good dog for older adults is a breed that needs to be calm.

Another 2 categories of dogs are those that shed and those that don't. Shedding is a huge trouble of people who have dogs. Dog hair clings to furniture, clothing and people who sit anywhere in the house. Short haired dogs may look easier to groom but they too can shed. Shedding can be grouped or divided into barely sheds, seasonal only shedding and constant shedding.

Another essential issue to consider is the size of the dog. Smaller dogs weigh less than 10 pounds, medium dogs weigh 11-25 pounds, large dogs weigh 26-50 pounds and extra large dogs weight 51-80 pounds. There are also extremely large breeds like Mastiffs and St. Bernard that can reach up to 100-180 pounds. Now you see why size is also a big factor in choosing a dog that is suited for you and your family.

Can your furniture stand a large dog? When choosing a breed always keep in mind to base your decision on the size the breed will grow to as an adult dog and not on the look of the puppy.

Always remember that big dogs are also big eaters. If you bring home a large dog, you may need a second work just to pay for the food.

Care requirement is another important consideration. Some breeds require extra grooming than other breeds. Dogs like poodles or show dogs may spend a little more time in grooming centers than you do. An ordinary breed may need daily grooming to keep their furs well maintained. You should always research about the dog breed that you desire. Check the dog breed’s temperament, size, and grooming requirements before you make any decision. Researching those important information will surely save you a lot of time and avoid any problem in taking care of the dog. It's only fair to the dog you want that you be prepared to care for the dog’s basic needs, plus provide the love and attention that only you can give.
