Ski Holiday Travel – Why you should support your local Ski Travel Agent.

Does the internet and booking direct spell then end of the ski wholesaler, I hope not.

Ok I am biased, my first job 18 years ago, was with a ski travel wholesaler, ironically it was my first experience with skiing and I loved it so much I joined the company.

Back then few people would even consider booking direct, after all skiing was a relatively new pursuit in Australia and without the existence of the internet people relied on ski wholesalers to advise them on where to stay and to book their holiday.

Over time skiers became much more educated about the ski destinations and what was required to book a ski holidays and soon thought, I can do this myself.

At the same time resorts also started to set up their own ski reservations companies and attracting people direct.

Maybe this is just the sign of the times, maybe the middle man is always doomed in this modern era but I ask what did they really do wrong? After all they provided advice and booking service for free to the consumer and the only people who paid were the resorts and it’s not like any resort has ever reduced their prices since. So who benefits?

Firstly without ski wholesaler promoting the virtues of a ski holiday , many of us including myself would never have ever considered going skiing. My first trip was a bus group tour organised by ski a wholesaler who called, encouraged and organised everything.

Additionally they did all of this basically for free, we did not pay an extra cent to them for organising it all. The proceeds from their effort, a small commission, was obtained from the resort, who should pay as they were bringing new business and new skiers to their resort.

In summary ski wholesalers take the hassle out of booking a holiday they organise everything;
• They offer advice from their knowledge and often intimate experience with the resort and properties in the resort
• Without allegiants to the resort or accommodation they are unbiased in their assessment of your needs and where to stay
• They are a one stop shop to everything you need, accommodations, lifts, ski rental & insurance
• Provide receipts, information about resorts and security of associations to travel industry bodies to protect your funds. &
• Offer specials and deals not just on one product but all components of a holiday

And what do they ask in return for all these free services, just your business.

Support your local ski wholesaler – if you find a specials price, accommodation or great deal ask your local ski wholesaler to match it, chances are you will end up saving even more.
