Greenhouse Heaters

Greenhouse Heaters

Let’s say you have built a greenhouse a few months ago. It was the middle of summer and the weather was perfect for getting the conditions inside your greenhouse where they need to be. Your existing plants are beginning to flourish and your seedlings have sprouted with youthful zest. All of your hard work has begun to pay off and the flowers are showing you their appreciation. All is fair and well, but you know that the sunshine doesn’t last forever and the bitter cold months are well on their way. Now, if your greenhouse is structurally sound and provides sufficient weather exclusion then you would have already won half the battle. As you know, the plants inside the greenhouse rely on the house’s ability to maintain a constant temperature inside it. It’s what helps them thrive and flourish. Unfortunately, it cannot stop the external environment from doing what it does best and in order for you to minimise the effects of “refrigerating” your plants to death, you will definitely need some form of internal heating system inside the greenhouse, to help keep year round constant temperature and give you the benefits of enjoying your plants throughout the entire year.

Fortunately, some ingenious people have come up with some really good ways to help you out. They haven’t so much as re-invented the wheel, but merely adapted what we already do for ourselves and used them for the plants. You have a few cost effective options available to you and if your budget isn’t a problem then you can really go all the way and give your plants the best that they deserve.

For a cost effective solution, you can get yourself an electric fan heater that will blow and circulate warm air throughout the greenhouse and help to maintain the internal temperature. However, you need to bear in mind that it will run off the mains and is going to add to your electrical bill. Another option available is to use gas; it’s normally readily available and cheap to run. The only thing to consider is that if you go for a standard gas heater, the best you can do is place it in the centre of the greenhouse and hope that it heats the whole place evenly. If you decide to go all the way, then you can go for a special piping system that runs on gas and because the tubes run all over the greenhouse, you can ensure even heating throughout. The great thing about gas, is that it is inexpensive to buy and readily available at most hardware stores or general retailers.

Essentially, you have a number of options available to you to help keep your plants healthy, you just need to decide how much you want to spend and then take some time to decide which option is the best for you and then have it installed in time for when those really cold months come along.
