Fred Astaire Portrait

Many people say that he was the greatest dancer of all times, at least the greatest dancer ever seen on film.

Fred danced in cabarets, vaudevilles and music halls all over the world. He is very known for his acting in Hollywood movies together with Ginger Rodgers. He always stated that his dancing techniques matured with him, with every new movie, every new dance. He always made it look so easy, one seldom got the impression that he worked hard his effects. Except for his multi-Emmy-award-winning television specials of the late 50s and early 60s, he wanted to concentrate more on straight acting. He was awarded an Oscar in 1981 for his entire lifetime achievement. He kept himself busy as an actor until his death in 1987.

Fred Astaire entertained through his art. He was a professional with a solid training. His impeccable technique, incorporating tap, ballet and ballroom used to amaze everybody and his tremendous influence on the dance world was a constant source of inspiration for many dancers, even though “imitating the inimitable was impossible”.

Fred Astaire is a veritable national and international symbol. Ask anyone about who was Fred Astaire. They will instantly respond. “There was a time when every American boy wanted to be Fred Astaire – even Fred Astaire.”

His light voice made him also a reputable interpreter for the major songwriters of his era. He remains in history like the most celebrated dancer of all times.

There have been made many portraits of Fred Astaire, photographs, paintings, drawings and many people like to have them hanging on their walls in their houses. There are many posters, prints, photos of the artist all over the internet and many books and articles were written about his life and biography.
