The conception referred to as business health checks has always existed, though maybe on many occasions it has not been formally termed and realized as a fully fledged business activity. Organizations have internally monitored project flows, checked quite a lot of accounts for business consistency and undertook various other checking roles, without realizing it formed part of a business health check. But what was missing was the collaborative effort of the whole business.

Business health checks are a wide insight into an existent business’s functioning pattern. In line with the objective, the health check begins by finding relevant answers to a predefined questionnaire. This questionnaire includes subjects like the structural pattern, internal communication procedures, project alignment vis-à-vis the overall company objective, deadline orientation, new process research and innovation, technology, competition, employees and more. The list is a detailed one, which appropriately touches upon all the aspects of the business. Based upon the findings generated from the analysis, a typical business health check helps to understand the industry norms and performance yardsticks followed by the creation of a plan to fulfill the growth and to work out the areas that require support.

Businesses are essential and therefore they should be looked after and treated with due respect, because even minor defaults can transform to serious implications. With this in mind, business health checks should be performed on a regular basis. However, a religious commitment towards this duty might not be possible within a business, so outsourcing the health check task to an established company would be the next best course of action.
There are several companies to choose from when it comes to performing business health checks. As a general guide, ask yourself: do they propose to undertake the diligent task of business health checks on your behalf; are they well experience in Office of Government Commerce's (OGC) Best Practice methodologies; are they suitably equipped to closely analyses the business functioning pattern in line with the industry norms, set objectives and therefore suggest an optimal course for the business; are the business health check services a comprehensive assessment exercise, which includes the relevant check facets? If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to all the questions, then you have found the company which will best perform your business health checks.
