Carrer Choosing

I’ve wanted to go to college for a long time because I want to succeed in my life with a good job. I really want to get great pay or at least enough pay to support the family I have now, and the family I would like to have later. The job I want should be interesting to me, this is important in case I am going to keep the job for the rest of my life. The job that seems interesting to me is in the area of Engineering. There are many types of engineering careers, but i have an idea of what i want to do now.The Engineering area that interested me the most is the career of Engineering Technicians. I chose to research about Engineering because I am very interested in doing math and I would like to work in an office preferably. Many engineer technicians assist engineers and scientists. That is something that I would like to do because I am not a managing type of person. I like keeping records and doing something for someone else like a secretary, and engineer technicians are a little like that except that they do more than that because they participate in the experiments and problem solving too. If I were an Engineering Technician , I might get to assist in designing work , often using computer-aided equipment. I’ve had experience with designing on my own except I didn’t design electrical equipment or any machines. I have designed clothes on my own, but I won’t do that in Engineering careers. Engineering technicians get to collect data and calculate or record the results in experiments and projects which I am very interested in doing because I like keeping records and collecting data. Engineering technicians have a job in each certain area of Engineering, which means that I have to pick one of many types of Engineering to be the technician. Engineering technicians work for about 40 hours a week, but sometimes they work for long stressful hours. It`l be nice to have that 40-hour schedule though. If it were a 5- day work week, that would mean that I would work about 8 hours a day. To me that would be a good schedule because it would be about the same schedule as when I go to school. Most engineering technicians work these hours in laboratories, offices, manufacturing plants, industrial plants, or construction sites. Since I am not much of an outdoor person, I would like to be working inside. There are a few engineering technician jobs that may possibly qualify you without formal training. The problem is that most employers prefer to hire someone that has at least a 2-year associate degree in engineering technology. For this certain training I can go to a technical institute, community college, extension divisions of colleges/universities, public/private vocational-technical schools, and the Armed Forces. First- time engineering technicians usually begin by performing routine duties under the close supervision of an experienced technician, technologist, enginer, or scientist. This fact makes me feel better in case I screw up as I tend to do when I am nervous. The close supervision will make me feel a
lot safer than I would have felt before.

Average annual earnings vary by what the specialty it is you are in. For example, electrical and electronics technicians were earning about $40,020 in the year 2000. The middle 50% earned nearly $31,570 and $49,680. The lowest ten percent earned less than $25,210, and the highest won more than $58,320. Another example is the average annual salary in 2000 for aerospace engineering and operations technicians in the aircrafts and parts industry that was about $53,340. The area of engineering technicians that I would like is engineering and architectural services. Its customary yearly salary was $40,580. Another one that I might like to pick is industrial engineering technicians in computer and data processing services and elecric components and accessories which won from $73,320 and $36,300. If I were to want to earn more money then I could just go ahead and study about engineering. Their earnings range from $38,770 to some $118,630. That amount of money sounds great, but I would have to like the job when I research it. It requires about the same education as Engineer technicians.

No one influenced me into liking doing math, except maybe the grades I got that made me feel comfortable and confident about math. I like doing it even though I don’t always understand what I am doing. Its really weird because I almost always get a problem right even though I have no idea of what I just did.
