The variation among these fragrance types lies in the concentration levels of oils that are blend into them.
Fragrance is a way of classifying different scents in an industry. Fragrance is classified into five categories namely, fresh, floral, woody, fougere and oriental. Their name is an indication of the fragrance it spreads and fougere is an amalgamation of two or more standard scents. Floral category has plain floral, floral oriental and soft floral types and the category of oriental comprises of soft oriental, woody oriental, plain oriental, while the wood, dry woods and mossy woods fall under woody category of fragrances. Ultimately the fragrance of fresh category comprises of citrus, water and green fragrances.
Perfumes possess the highest level of perfume oil concentration. This is subsequently followed by eau de perfume, eau de toilette and finally eau de cologne that have nearly 2-5% perfume oils in comparison to perfumes that have perfume oils to nearly 20-40%. Perfume oils are normally derivatives of plants, organic as well as natural sources such as lichens or animals. Synthetic scents are also easily available. However, perfumes have stronger fragrances than any other fragrance and they last longer as well. On the other hand eau de cologne has to be smeared numerous times a day to sustain the scent of it as they do not hold the fragrance for a long time as the fragrance is transitory.
Scents are used to enhance personality of a person. Fragrance is also applied to enhance the well being of a person. One can easily judge an overall attitude as well as personality of an individual by the fragrance. This is employed as aromatherapy to promote relaxed atmosphere. Fragrance is usually used to camouflage bad odor. In cases of bad odor a stronger perfume or scent is mandatory to camouflage the undesirable odor. Many people keep scented assortment in their homes to enhance the ambience.
Comprehending different types of fragrance helps you in deciding to select new fragrances. Citrus gives you the zest of lemons, oranges and grapefruit. Green presents an outdoor imagery and the fragrance is sharp and formal. Water offers an aromatic sea breeze scent. Florals, woody fragrances and Orientals are water notes. Florals are the common fragrance for the family. These scent ranges from a single flower to invigorating blend of bouquets. This fragrance is soft. Woody scents give the fragrance of sandalwood. However it has the wood notes.
