Promotional products and advertising specialties are a cost effective medium to promote your business, occupation and profession. They not only do a got job by marketing and promoting your product at an affordable price but they also help in creating a long lasting impression on the mind of existing and potential customers.
Promotional Products or promotional items refer to articles of merchandise that are used in marketing and communication programs. These articles are usually imprinted with a company's logo, name or slogan, and are given away at trade shows, conferences, and as part of revolutionary marketing campaigns. The main motive of giving away such items is, basically to get customers familiarized with a company’s products. This in return generates higher sales volume leading to extra earning of revenue. Almost anything can be, branded with a company’s logo or name and used for promotion purposes. Common items include t-shirts, caps, key chains, posters, bumper stickers, pens, mugs, pencils, calendars, clocks, writing pads, shopping bags or mouse pads. Research has showed that the largest product category for promotional products is clothing items, which make up more than 30% of the total market.
Most promotional items are relatively small , inexpensive and quite affordable but they can range to higher-end items also ; for example celebrities at film festivals and award shows are often given costly and posh promotional items such as expensive perfumes, leather goods, and electronics items. Companies that give pricey gifts for celebrity attendees often request the celebrity to allow them to take a photograph them along with the gift item, which can be, used by the company for promotional and marketing purposes. Other companies provide luxury gifts such as handbags, purses or scarves to celebrity attendees in the hopes that the celebrities will wear these items in public, thus acquiring publicity for the company's brand name and product. This is an indirect method of advertising, which a company usually takes up.
Brand awareness is the most common motive behind giving away promotional products. There are many other objectives why companies offer promotional products. They include employee relationships and events, public relations building, new customer acquisition, dealer and distributor programs, new product introductions, employee service awards, not-for-profit programs, internal incentive programs, customer referrals, and safety education marketing research.
Promotional items as a tool for non-profitable organizations, such as schools and charities are, often used as a source of fund raising activities and awareness-raising campaigns. A study conducted in the year 2007 showed that the top 10 industries investing in promotional products includes: education, financial services, non-profit, healthcare, construction, professional associations, real estate agencies, government, and service providing professionals such as (doctors, lawyers and accountants and hotels, restaurants and bars.
Once upon a time, the utilization of promotional products was limited to random giveaways and not as a vital part of an integrated marketing effort. Nowadays, a large number of promotional products are given away by businesses and organizations, sometimes with the help of a promotional consultant, to specific target audiences so as to generate specific and measurable results.
